Simple Installation of Aluminum Window Awning Kits

First you should check to make sure you have all the parts from the bill of materials.  Then you should make sure you have the following tools.

  1. With screws provided, install 2 adjustable brackets (#3) on each side of window on top.( approx. 2" on either side of window and 2" from top of window.) (For wider awnings with more than 2 arms, place additional brackets spaced at even intervals between outside brackets)

  1. Using cotter pin, attach each "stringer" (#4) to top bracket as shown in the attached photo. The mounted bracket must be spread slightly to accomodate the "stringer".

  1. The return arm (#2) should be mounted in a near horizontal position. This will allow for any awning adjustment you may desire by using any of the prepunched holes in the "stringer". Attach the return arm to the stringer by spreading the "fins" on the arm and inserting the cotter pin through one set of the prepunched holes. Hold the return arm in an approximate horizontal position and place it against the wall to determine the mounting location of the lower bracket. Mark this location and install lower bracket. Insert cotter pin through lower bracket and return arm.
  2. Repeat steps 1 through 3 on each awning support assembly.

  1. To install the "flex" pans, start at the very top of the awning. Begin by hooking ONLY the uppermost side of the pan onto the stringer. (Do not snap into place yet as they will all be snapped in place as the last step.) Place second, third, etc. pans on the stringers until all are laying on the stringers with only the top portion hooked into place. (for the closed view awnings, you will need to slide the pans into place from the side because the gap is not wide enough to snap down.)

  1. Center all pans and line up either side of the pans (while they are laying there) by using a straight edge to "tap" each pan into place in a straight line.

  1. Stand back and "eyeball" the alignment of the pans. When you feel comfortable with the alignment we can snap the "flex" pans into position. Starting at the top , place the palm of your hand directly over the pans at the point where they are resting on the stringer. At this point, (using moderate downward pressure) run your hand down the slats until all pans are "snapped" into place.

  1. Repeat step 7 for each stringer.

Nice work!  Pat yourself on the back and enjoy your new awning.  Please email us photos.  We'd love to hear how it went.
